Angelina Jolie Contemplates Leaving Acting Behind to Embrace New Chapter in Cambodia: A Journey of Healing and Freedom

Angelina Jolie, at the age of 48, recently expressed her desire to permanently retire from acting. Additionally, she disclosed her plans to leave the ‘unhealthy’ city of Los Angeles and spend more time in Cambodia. Due to the constraints brought about by her contentious divorce with Brad Pitt, Jolie feels that she has lost the freedom to travel as she wishes. In an interview with WSJ. Magazine for their December/January issue, the actress voiced her disdain for Hollywood, labeling it as a superficial environment. She also confessed that if she were to enter the industry today, she probably would not choose a career in acting. Although she aspires to move to Asia soon, Jolie stated that she will delay her departure until her legal battle with Pitt concludes. The former couple began dating in 2005, tied the knot in 2014, and ultimately split in 2016. Ever since, they have been embroiled in a complex and arduous divorce process spanning over seven years, primarily revolving around the custody of their six children.

Angelina Jolie has hinted that she wants to quit acting for good - as she revealed her plans to leave 'unhealthy' Los Angeles and 'spend more time' in Cambodia

Angelina Jolie has subtly indicated her intention to permanently step away from the world of acting. In an open discussion, she candidly expressed her desire to distance herself from the detrimental atmosphere of Los Angeles and instead invest a significant amount of her time in Cambodia.

The actress, 48, said that she 'lost the ability to travel freely' due to her bitter divorce battle with Brad Pitt (seen in 2015)

In light of her acrimonious divorce proceedings with Brad Pitt (as depicted in 2015), the 48-year-old actress recently expressed her regret at the loss of her freedom to travel without hindrance.

She spoke out about her disdain for Hollywood in WSJ. Magazine's new December/January issue

In the latest edition of WSJ. Magazine’s December/January issue, she openly expressed her strong disapproval for the Hollywood industry.

She explained that she wants to move away as soon as she can to instead live in her home in Asia - but not until her ongoing legal battle with her ex finds a resolution

She expressed her desire to relocate to her home in Asia as soon as possible, but only after her current legal conflict with her former partner is resolved.

According to Angelina’s conversation with WSJ. Magazine, she expressed how her court dispute had significantly impacted her freedom to live and travel without restrictions. As a result of her divorce, she noted the constraints on her lifestyle and stated that she intends to relocate as soon as circumstances allow.

'It’s part of what happened after my divorce - I lost the ability to live and travel as freely,' she said. 'I will move when I can'

She mentioned that her ability to live and travel freely had been affected after her divorce, stating that she would relocate when the opportunity arises. Having grown up in a superficial environment, she expressed that Hollywood was not a mentally healthy place and sought for authenticity elsewhere. Being raised around the entertainment industry, being unimpressed with it, and having actor parents herself, Angelina never considered it to be significant or essential. Reflecting on her career choice, she revealed that if given the chance to start over today, she wouldn’t pursue acting due to the pressure of sharing personal details as a public figure. In the past, there wasn’t as much expectation to be so open. She humorously acknowledged that her social life is almost nonexistent now and playfully mentioned that her closest friends are refugees.

She described Hollywood as 'shallow' and 'unhealthy' adding that she fell in love with Cambodia because she was 'seeking authenticity'

She characterized Hollywood as being superficial and detrimental, stating that her fascination with Cambodia was rooted in her desire for genuine experiences.

She admitted that if she were to start all over today, she likely wouldn't choose acting as her profession, due to some of the 'expectation' to share the intimate details of her personal life

She confessed that if she were given the chance to begin anew at this very moment, it is highly probable that she would not opt for a career in acting. The reason behind this lies in her reluctance to conform to the pressure of exposing the intricate facets of her personal life.

She added, 'When I was starting out, it wasn’t as much of an expectation to be as public, to share so much'

She mentioned, ‘Back when I first started, there wasn’t as much pressure to be in the public eye or share personal details.’ For over twenty years, the renowned actress has collaborated with the UN Refugee Agency, making visits to camps in various countries such as Cambodia, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, and Pakistan. ‘I find that people who have experienced hardship are not only more truthful but also more connected, and I feel more at ease in their presence,’ she expressed. ‘What draws me to spending time with survivors and refugees? It’s the fact that they have faced immense challenges in life, which not only brings out their strength but also their humanity.’ Angelina has been involved in one of the most highly publicized separations in history, as the whole world watched her and her ex-husband Brad, aged 59, battle it out in court for the last seven years. During her interview with WSJ, she briefly touched upon the end of her marriage, while also discussing her recent decision to step away from the public spotlight.

Angelina - whose parents, Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, were both actors themselves - added that because 'she grew up around' Hollywood, she was 'never very impressed' with it. She's seen (left) as a kid with her mom and brother

Angelina, the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, revealed that growing up in Hollywood made her unimpressed with the industry. She explained that she and her family had to heal from certain things, which partly explains her limited appearance in movies during her ongoing legal battle. Angelina, now 48 years old, recently graced the cover of a magazine, showcasing a close-up shot of her face. The photoshoot also featured her modeling outfits from her sustainable fashion brand, Atelier Jolie. While she may take a break from acting, Angelina expressed her determination to continue working, believing that there is always a fight ahead. She has shifted her focus to her clothing company, which aims to promote individuality and freedom. Currently, she is involved in opening a shop in New York City, which will house a café run by refugee and immigrant chefs, as well as providing educational events on various techniques. Although she anticipates potential financial setbacks, Angelina is motivated to make positive changes in the fashion industry without causing harm to the environment or garment workers.

Brad and Angelina met on set of the 2005 movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith (seen) and married in 2014

Brad and Angelina first crossed paths while working together on the set of the 2005 film Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Over time, their connection blossomed, leading them to tie the knot in 2014.

They welcomed three children - Shiloh and twins Vivienne and Knox. They also adopted Zahara and Pax, and Brad adopted the son Angelina had adopted before they got together, Maddox

The couple happily had three children together – Shiloh and twins Vivienne and Knox. Additionally, they made the compassionate decision to adopt Zahara and Pax. Furthermore, Brad formally adopted Maddox, whom Angelina had already adopted before they became a couple. Following their initial meeting on the set of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” their relationship became the subject of controversy due to Brad still being married to Jennifer Aniston. Speculation quickly arose that he had been unfaithful to the popular actress. Despite these rumors, Brad vehemently denied any infidelity. Despite the initial turmoil, Brangelina became a beloved couple in Hollywood for more than ten years. They held a secret wedding ceremony in the South of France in August 2014 and welcomed three children together. Shiloh, who is now 17, was born in 2006, followed by twins Vivienne and Knox, now 15, in 2008. The family also expanded through the adoption of Zahara, now 18, and Pax, now 20. Brad legally adopted Angelina’s son Maddox, who is now 22. However, their relationship came to a tumultuous end in 2016 when an alleged physical altercation occurred during a private flight with their six children. Angelina claimed that Brad had harmed their children and subjected her to violent actions. Brad’s representative initially denied these allegations but later clarified that Brad took responsibility for his actions while refuting any false accusations. After a prolonged legal battle, Brad and Angelina were granted joint custody of their children in May 2021, but this decision was later overturned. In addition to their custody dispute, the former couple has also been involved in a legal battle over a winery they once co-owned.
